Insecurity: convoy fails to proceed to Peshawar

PARACHINAR: A convoy of vehicles carrying students, patients and government employees could not proceed to Peshawar from Parachinar, the headquarters of Kurram Agency, due to security concerns, official and tribal sources said on Wednesday.

The sources said that the convoy was destined for the provincial capital to take the locals after Eid holidays. The Thall-Parachinar Road has been closed to traffic for the last five years owing to security concerns.

The closure of the road has considerably added to the woes of the general public. Due to security concerns, the residents in Parachinar are transported to Peshawar in convoys escorted by the security forces.

Meanwhile, the authorities in lower part of Kurram Agency impounded three cars believed to have been used in a number of criminal activities. The sources in the political administration claimed that acting on a tip-off, the workshop of a dent-repairer, where the vehicles had been parked, was raided in Pir Qayyum area. The owner of the workshop was arrested and the vehicles confiscated, the sources said. The cars had been used in kidnapping for ransom and murder incidents.
