JAP holds protest demo against Shia killings

Staff Report

KARACHI: The Jaffaria Alliance Pakistan (JAP) staged a demonstration on Sunday to protest against the killings of Shia Muslims by the Taliban in Dera Ismail Khan.

"We demand the government to protect the life and property of people of Dera Ismail Khan and Kurram Agency," urged former Senator and JAP president Allama Abbas Kumaili while addressing a rally outside the Karachi Press Club. A large number of religious scholars and clerics participated in the protest against the killings of Shi'ites in DI Khan.

They expressed dissatisfaction with the government's performance, adding that it has failed to save innocent people from the terrorism of Taliban. "We demand the PPP-led government to part ways with a religious party that is a part of the ruling coalition because the party leadership is involved in the killings of Shia Muslims in DI Khan and Kurram Agency," Kumaili stressed.

Labeling the Taliban involved in the bloodshed of the Shia community as US and Indian agents, he said that the Taliban want to destabilize the country by using sectarian violence. Kumaili said that it's the responsibility of the government to protect its nationals from terrorists. He demanded of the president, PM and the COAS to immediately extend the ongoing anti-terrorists operation to DI Khan where more than 126 Shi'ite Muslims have been assassinated from March 2008 to date, adding that the operation should further be extended to Kurram Agency. "We support the initiative of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani against the Taliban terrorists," he said while appealing to all Pakistanis to support the anti-terrorist operation without any discrimination of color and caste. He warned that JAP would start a countrywide campaign against the government if the army operation is not extended to DI Khan and Kurram Agency.
