HANGU: Three persons were killed and five others sustained injuries when clashes erupted between two rival groups in upper part of Kurram Agency on Sunday, tribal sources said. The sources said the two groups had been running a dispute over water for a long time, which was temporarily settled by the local elders of a jirga at Hamza Killay near Pewar area. The situation, however, became tense between the two rival parties after unidentified armed men kidnapped 60 persons, which later led to fierce clashes. The two groups traded heavy gunfire that left three persons dead and five others injured. The sources said that some of the kidnapped persons belonged to one of the groups. The sources said that the Pewar and Tangi tribes had been at loggerheads over a water dispute since long. A jirga was constituted to resolve the issue but that did not work. President of Parachinar Islahi Committee Attaullah appealed to the Kurram Agency administration to play role in disarming the feuding tribes. |
