JAP demands army action in DI Khan
By Irfan Ali
KARACHI: The Jaffaria Alliance Pakistan (JAP) demanded the president, the prime minister and the Chief of Army Staff to immediately extend the ongoing anti-terrorist operation to Dera Ismail Khan where more than 126 Shia Muslims have been assassinated since March 2008.
JAP chief and former senator Allama Abbas Kumaili said that the government must fulfill the alliance's demand in a month's time. "Punish the terrorists and their patrons and abettors of genocide of the Shia Muslims without any discrimination," Kumaili urged in a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club on Friday.
He warned that if the government would not order for the operation against the terrorists and militants in DI Khan, the JAP would call for a countrywide protest. Kumaili further said that they would adopt all the appropriate measures to raise their voice against the genocide of Shias. "We will exercise our rights to contact foreign ambassadors, international human rights organisations, and other forums to inform them about the genocide of Shiites," he announced.
He also demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take a suo motu action against injustices done to Shia Muslims in Pakistan.
He pointed out that a large number of Taliban militants of Bannu and Malakand were migrating to DI Khan where, he added, the civil administration and police officials support them. Kumaili appreciated the just position of Sunni scholars and custodians of shrines against the Taliban brand of sharia.
Referring to the blockade of the Kurram Agency Parachanar by the Taliban, he said that more than 0.7 million people of the Kurram Agency are suffering from the blockade for past two years. He cited that the peace accord between the local groups has remained inapplicable due to the interference of the Taliban.
