PARACHINAR: A man was killed when unidentified gunmen attacked the Alizai area of Kurram Agency Monday. Sources said unidentified militants from Bagzai area attacked the Alizai area of Kurram Lower, using heavy weapons. As a result, one Ismail, who was working in the fields, sustained critical injuries in the firing. He was rushed to the Agency Headquarters Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. After the incident, a local committee formed to fight militancy in the area, moved into action.

Four Kurram Levy personnel freed By our correspondent SADDA: Four personnel of the Kurram Levy force, who were reportedly kidnapped by Hizbullah Militia — militant wing of the Turi tribe — from Alizai area of Lower Kurram were released Sunday. Sources told The News that Assistant Political Agent of Lower Kurram Ayaz Mandokhel along with his security guards identified as Havildar Abdul Karim, Sepoys Gul Rauf, Dilbat Khan and Abdul Ghafoor was on his way to Sadda city from Islamabad after attending a jirga of Sunni and Shia elders on Saturday. When they reached Alizai area, armed men of Hizbullah Militia intercepted the vehicles of assistant political agent and his security personnel. | PARACHINAR: The long time closure of roads in Kurram Agency has forced Bangesh tribes to take refugee in Afghanistan. The decision was taken in a jirga of Bangesh tribes held today. Talking to Geo News after the jirga, the leader of Bangesh tribe Mir Zaman Bangesh advocate said closure of roads created shortage of food and medicines in the area, which enhanced miseries of Bangesh tribes Many people were died due to shortage of medicines, therefore, more than 500 families of Bangesh tribes have decided to move Afghanistan and they will start migration soon. |

Warring Kurram tribes to sign peace accord soon
PESHAWAR: Three warring tribes in Kurram Agency may soon sign an accord under the aegis of the Afghan government and NATO to provide safe passage to two Sunni tribes to Afghanistan.
"We hope this agreement among the Bangash, Mengal and Toori tribes will be signed in the next week, helping the Bangash and Mengal tribesmen to use Kharlachi route through the Toori territory to travel to Afghanistan," Attaullah Khan, general secretary of a reforms committee, told Daily Times on Wednesday. The Bangash and Mengal tribes' access to Afghanistan was cut off when the Toori tribe stopped rival tribes from using their territory to travel to Afghanistan. Leaders from both tribes met fellow tribesmen in Afghanistan to "pressure" the rival Tooris across the border to allow them safe passage. "I think the Kabul government and NATO officials are taking interest in our case because they do not want sectarian violence to spill over into Afghanistan," Attaullah said.

| PESHAWAR: NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has said the continuous sectarian conflict in Kurram Agency has resulted in killings that is shocking for the nation. Talking to two representative Jirgas of both sects from the Kurram Agency that called on him at the Frontier House in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said the government had been taking every possible step to restore the atmosphere of peace and confidence in the area. He added that delegations, comprising renowned Ulema and religious scholars from across the country, were also involved, but no worthwhile progress could be made. Even now, Owais said, there seemed no visible sign of improvement in the situation. Therefore, the government had left with no other option but to take the right step to restore peace in the area, he added. He made it clear that the government was also aware of the loss of human lives in the wake of the continued conflict. To avoid further killings and to make start of the reconstruction process possible, peaceful atmosphere had to be restored in the area, he added. Owais pointed out that the Kurram Agency was situated along the Afghan border, therefore, its residents must realise that the root cause of the law and order situation, being faced in Fata and the province, was, in fact, the state of anarchism, prevailing in the region for the last 30 years. Even today, he added, poppy cultivation in the neighbouring country, coupled with smuggling of its production, was proving a lifeline for sustenance of extremism and terrorism in the area. He said there was no doubt that disturbances from the law and order point of view and the war-like situation, being experienced from Waziristan in the south and Swat in the north, was mainly because of external conspiracy, which had put the nation to the test. He, however, made it clear that the writ of the government would be established in every area. Visible success in this respect had already been achieved and peace in the Kurram Agency would be restored at all costs, he said. Owais pointed out that all those who had left the Kurram Agency because of the continued sectarian conflict would return to their homes and atmosphere of tolerance would be restored. He said neither any external involvement would be allowed nor any alien would get the opportunity to disturb the atmosphere in the area in the future. The development and reconstruction process in the Kurram Agency, he added, was subject to restoration of peace. Responding to various points raised by members of the delegations, the governor said internal differences provided the opportunities of involvement to the alien and there was a dire need that elders of the area should share the grievances of all the aggrieved. |

ISLAMABAD:
National Assembly (NA) standing committee on SAFRON has recommended to ministry of defence for deployment of an army corps on Thal-Para Chinnar road adding troops deployed on Indo-Pak borders be curtailed and shifted to western borders if need be.
Additional Defence secretary Maj Gen Mir Haider said army could not be removed from Indo-Pak borders and deployed in Kurram agency adding "we can not even think of thinning out troops from our eastern border when India has enhanced its defence budget by 35 percent and its troops on the common borders. We can not shut our ears on the threat from Indian side looming over eastern borders.
Committee met here Friday under its chairman Sajid Hussain Toori and reviewed the law and order situation in Karram agency and the problems facing the people uprooted from Malakand division.
Giving briefing to committee additional chief secretary FATA told normalcy was returning in Karram agency after peace accord was brokered between Shia and Sunni sects in the area. Exchange of dead bodies and kidnapped persons had taken place between them. Writ of government was weak in Karram agency still. It was essential that people from both the sects be settled in their respective areas for the sake of restoration of lasting peace in the area, he told.
Commended recommended that air service from Peshawar to Karram agency be launched forthwith.
Additional defence secretary told no airline including PIA was ready to launch air service at the start from Peshawar to Karram agency. Talks were underway between government and Army welfare trust in this respect. After the talks small aircrafts of Civil Aviation would be assigned to this air service, he told.
