| PARACHINAR: The jirga of Toori tribe Tuesday demanded the safe recovery of 12 persons kidnapped on Monday. The jirga demanded of the government to make highways secure for the travellers and expressed concern over the government failure to provide security to people. Also, one Ashtar Hussain was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard. He was killed while trying to escape. |

12 men abducted in Hangu
HANGU: Unidentified armed men on Monday opened fire on a Peshawar-bound vehicle before abducting 12 of its passengers near Kurram Agency's border with Hangu district, officials said. An official told Daily Times that the vehicle was on its way to Peshawar when the armed men intercepted it in Tootkas area and abducted 12 of its 15 passengers.Hangu District Police Officer Sajjad Khan confirmed the incident. He added that even though the Khasadar force was deployed in the area, the Taliban were openly operating there. saboor khan.

14 bus passengers kidnapped in NWFP |

PARACHINAR: Unidentified armed men first fired at the tyres of a Parachinar-bound passenger coach in the Tut Kas area on Monday and later kidnapped 14 travellers.Sources said the kidnappers left behind three women travelling in the same vehicle while shifted the male passengers to an undisclosed location. The vehicle was on way to Parachinar from Peshawar and it was stopped at the place where four passengers of a Peshawar-bound coach were seriously wounded in a roadside explosion on Sunday. Locals said people were being kidnapped on daily basis from the Thall-Parachinar road near the Tor Ghar area, while the administration was looking the other way. They said 38 people had been picked from the same area so far. The residents maintained that criminals in the garb of the militants were making travellers hostage and later released them after receiving hefty amounts as ransom.  PESHAWAR: A passenger bus attacked with a bomb left several injured, while scores of deaths feared.Sourceas said that some unknown miscreants lobbed a bomb on a passenger bus at Torghar area of Lower Kurram in Kurram Agency blowing up the bus, while four persons in the initial report said to be injured. A number of passengers were on board the bus, when it was attacked. However, the exact number of passengers on board could not be known immediately. KARACHI - Jaffaria Alliance Pakistan (JAP) President Senator Allama Abbas Kumaili on Friday strongly denounced the suicide bomb blast on funeral prayer at DI Khan and termed the incident as the conspiracy to destabilise the country.
Speaking at the protest demonstration of JAP against the killing of more than 31 people at DI Khan outside Press Club, he said that the DI Khan suicide blast was the failure of the government and the government was failed to protect the people of the country from the terrorists.
He asked the MMA leaders and elected representatives of DI Khan to clear their policy that why the people of Shia community was being targeted by the terrorists at DI Khan.
Kumaili demanded of the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to play their role for the immediate arrest of the terrorists and the masterminds of these incidents.
He termed the sectarian terrorism against the Shia community at DI Khan, Quetta, Tank, DG Khan, Kurram Agency and Gilgit were the pre-planned conspiracy against the Shia community. He warned the rulers to take immediate steps to eliminate the terrorists involved in the killing of Shias otherwise the government would responsible for any situation.
Maulana Hussain Masoodi, Maulana Rajab Bangash, Allama Jaffar Raza, Allama Nisar Ahmed Qalandari, Allama Aftab Haider Jaffari and large number of mourners were present on the occasion.
Moreover, Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) on Friday held several demonstrations against the suicide bomb blast in DI Khan. The Central demonstration of ISO was held outside the local Masjid at Kharadar. Addressing the protest demonstration ISO President Ali Reza said that the sectarian terrorism in the country was the conspiracy of the United States and India to create hatred among the people of the country.
He termed that the Zionist and United States agents were involved in the killings of the people of Shia community and demanded of the government to shun the US policies and arrest the terrorists which were involved in the killing of Shias.
The enraged activists of ISO carrying portraits of Imam Khomeni and Ayatullah Khamenai, chanted slogans against United States and Israel. They torched the US and Israeli flags. Meanwhile, ISO has also staged the protest demonstration at Shah-e-Khurasan, Malir, Abbas Town, North Nazimabad and other areas of the metropolis.

At least 27 people have been killed and more than 50 others wounded in a suicide bomb attack on a funeral procession in a northwestern Pakistani town. The blast tore through crowds streaming toward a graveyard for the burial of Sher Zeman, a religious leader who had been shot dead in the city the day before. "The blast occurred when a funeral procession for a Shia Muslim murdered a day earlier was passing by," Syed Mohsin Shah, the area's senior administrator, said. Witnesses said mourners, some of whom had carried guns to the funeral, opened fire after the explosion, delaying rescue workers from accessing the scene. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb attack. 'Bolder attacks' Ehsanullah Khan, a police officer in the town, was quoted by the Reuters news agency as saying: "Now violence has erupted here. They're torching vehicles, ransacking shops and other properties." "What is happening is that we are seeing more and more [bold] attacks - like this one," he said. Pakistan's interior ministry has placed a curfew within the area and security forces have cordoned off the area, Khan said. Local television footage showed people rushing around a street and one person on a stretcher after the blast. Relations between Pakistan's Sunni majority and Shia minority are under growing strain from a series of attacks attributed to sectarian fighters. Much of the violence has been in the northwest, where the Taliban and several Sunni groups have gained greater control. |

| 32 killed, 85 injured in D.I. Khan suicide blast |
Updated at: 1816 PST, Friday, February 20, 2009 DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least 32 persons were killed and 85 others injured in a powerful suicide blast during funeral procession of Shia elder near Shobara hotel here on Friday, DCO Syed Mohsin Shah said. "The funeral procession accompanying the body of Shia elder, Sher Zaman killed yesterday by unknown gunmen, was moving towards the graveyard when it reached near Sobara hotel a powerful explosion took place," he told reporters. The DCO said that curfew has been imposed in the city and army has been called in. He also vowed to bring perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. Mohsin asked the people to remain in-door as shoot on sight orders have been issued. The DCO said security personnel are patrolling the roads and streets to avoid loss of life and property and maintain order. The injured were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) in Dera Ismail Khan, Bhakkar and CMH. Emergency has been declared in DI Khan hospital while doctors on leave have been called back. The condition of several victims was stated to be critical. The enraged mourners and family members of the victims protested the incident and resorted to aerial firing. The protestors burnt tyres and pelted stones on buildings and vehicles. Police rushed to the scene and started search operation. The situation in the city remained tense as intermittent incidents of firing are still reported from interior city.
